Participation Costs, EMJM Scholarships and Reduction of Participation Costs

How does it work?

Applying for Smart SustainChemE implies two things: applying to the programme and applying for financial support (an EMJM Scholarship or a Reduction of Participation Costs). So, at the end of the admission board, an applicant can be assigned 4 statuses. Of course, depending on the feedback of the other students, this status can change during the months after the admission board.

  • Status 1: Admitted with a partial scholarship, reducing the participation costs to cover living, travel, and other installation costs;.
  • Status 2: Admitted with an EMJM scholarship. This scholarship covers the participation costs and a monthly allowance (1,400 €/month) for the full 2-year Master’s programme.
  • Status 3: Admitted as a self-funded student.
  • Status 4: Not admitted.

For the statuses 2 and 3, the participation costs and the other expenses (travel, housing and living expenses) should be covered by the student, with or without the help of another type of scholarship (Regional or National scholarships, scholarship awarded by the French government in some countries like India for example, Eiffel Excellence Scholarship).

Participation Costs

The participation costs include the following:

  • Registration in 2 or 3 EMJM Smart SustainChemE institutions (University registration fee). If the local universities require any extra charge belonging to the programme requirements, the Smart SustainChemE consortium will reimburse this amount to the Student.
  • Participation to the 2-year 120-ECTS Smart SustainChemE educational programme, including:
    • Participation to the Joint Summer school courses, conferences, social events (travel remain at the students’ charge, catering will be partially covered by the programme),
    • Insurance coverage of the Student (see Article 6 §6),
    • Administrative assistance (support for visa issues, accommodation, bank account opening)
  • The participation costs don’t include the travel, housing and living expenses.

Partial scholarship reducing the participation costs

This partial scholarship, reducing the participation costs, is offered upon decision of the Smart SustainChemE admission board for a few students per cohort. The participation costs to be covered by the student depend on the citizenship of the student (EU or non-EU):

Partial grant holders are fully exempt from tuition and registration fees and covered by health insurance, allowing them to participate in the programme under the same academic conditions as full scholarship holders

EMJM scholarship

For the EMJM scholarship holders, the participation costs are fully covered by the European Union throughout the two-year EMJM programme.

Eligibility rules:

  • Students who have already benefited from an Erasmus+ EMJM scholarship (Master or Doctorate level) are not eligible.
  • EMJM grant holders cannot receive other EU funding during the same period.
  • While the scholarship offers substantial financial support, students are responsible for other expenses like travel, lodging, and administrative costs. The EMJM Scholarship lasts up to two years, aligning with the nominal duration of the programme and academic obligations of students.

Self-funded students

The participation costs to be covered by the student depend on the citizenship and on the specialisation track that is selected.
